My Top 5 Worship Songs to remind us of Easter

‘It is in the process of being worshiped that God communicates His presence to men’ C.S Lewis.

Holy Week, Easter Weekend and Resurrection Day has come and gone. It was surely a great time to reflect on the fact that Jesus Christ has died for us on the cross and resurrected on the third day. But as Christians we can tend to move on quickly from this time and get back to our everyday lives. I want to take this time to remind you and l on the true meaning of Easter and what Jesus attained for us on the Cross.

The best way l can think of to act as a reminder of Easter is through worship songs. I love worshiping God-it helps me focus on Him alone and in most cases always brings me to prayer.

My Top 6 Worship Songs to remind us of Easter are:

1. ‘In Christ Alone’ by Natalie Grant

You can watch and listen to the song here: http://bit.ly/2GyJW4O

This is one of my all-time favourite worship songs. The words are so powerful and deep. It reminds us of Jesus’ love on the cross and what His death and resurrection has achieved for us-victory, power, love, peace, forgiveness and freedom. We get all these benefits when we stand in Christ. And more importantly it reminds us of who Jesus is-our Comforter, Saviour, Cornerstone, Light, Strength and Gift of love.

I’ll share here some of my favourite parts of the song:

‘In Christ alone my hope is found. He is my light, my strength, my song

This gift of love and righteousness, scorned by the ones He came to save
‘Til on that cross as Jesus died the wrath of God was satisfied
For every sin on Him was laid. Here in the death of Christ I live, I live

Then bursting forth in glorious Day, up from the grave He rose again
And as He stands in victory Sin’s curse has lost its grip on me
For I am His and He is mine Bought with the precious blood of Christ’

2. ’No longer slaves’ by Jonathan David and Melissa Helser

You can watch and listen to the song here: http://bit.ly/2IFxwKW

My husband introduced me to this worship song about a year ago. When l first listened to it l didn’t get it. Then l started listening to it more and more and the words hit me. Now l can’t tell you how many times l’ve played the song.

I find that it totally reminds me of 2 Timothy 1: 7 ‘For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind’ .I have quoted this verse many a time when fear has threatened to take over my peace of mind. This freedom from fear was only achieved through the death of Jesus on the cross. So it’s a great reminder of Easter.

I will share here some of my favourite parts of the song:

‘I’m no longer a slave to fear I am a child of God

From my mother’s womb You have chosen me
Love has called my name
I’ve been born again, into a family. Your blood flows through my veins

We’ve been liberated from our bondage
Were the sons and the daughters let us sing our freedom

You drowned my fears in perfect love.
You rescued me and I will stand and sing. I am the child of God (yes I am’

3. ‘Love Song’ by Third Day

You can watch and listen to the song here: http://bit.ly/2XtqmN5

I feel like this is one of the most underrated worship songs l know of. The song is full of truth about Jesus’ love and how man’s love is full of empty promises. I wonder if it’s so underrated because it’s a truth we don’t want to admit? I’m not sure. But l’d like to remind you of the power of Jesus love for you and l through this song. Another great Easter reminder.

I will share here some of my favourite parts of the song:

‘I’ve heard it said that a man would climb a mountain
Just to be with the one he loves
How many times has he broken that promise
It has never been done
I’ve never climbed the highest mountain, but I walked the hill of Calvary

Just to be with you, I’d do anything
There’s not price I would not pay
Just to be with you, I’d give anything
I would give my life away

I know that you don’t understand the fullness of My love
How I died upon the cross for your sins
And I know you don’t realize how much that I gave you
But I promise, I would do it all again’

4. ‘My Redeemer Lives’ by Nicole Mullen

You can watch and listen to the song here: http://bit.ly/2V8OxTB

This song reminds me of how big God is. How He created the heavens and earth. Yet he cared for you and l to send His Son to die for our sins. David says in Psalm 8:4 ‘What is man that You are mindful of him, And the son of man that You visit him?’ It also reminds us that we have a God who is alive.

I will share here some of my favourite parts of the song:

‘The very same God that spins things in orbit
He runs to the weary, the worn and the weak
And the same gentle hands that hold me when I’m broken

They conquered death to bring me victory
Now I know my Redeemer lives
I know my Redeemer lives
Let all creation testify

He lives to take away my shame
And He lives forever, I’ll proclaim’

That the payment for my sin Was the precious life He gave
But now He’s alive and There’s an empty grave’

5. ‘Amazing Grace (My Chains Are Gone)’ by Chris Tomlin

You can watch and listen to the song here: http://bit.ly/2VWYwZl

I’ve seen Chris Tomlin performing live twice in South Africa and he is an amazing musician. I listen to a lot of his songs and it follows that l love his rendition of the old hymn ‘Amazing grace’. And that’s exactly what Easter is about- God’s amazing grace towards us his children.

I will share here some of my favourite parts of the song:

‘Amazing grace How sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me I once was lost, but now I’m found
Was blind, but now I see
‘Twas grace that taught my heart to fear and grace my fears relieved
How precious did that grace appear the hour I first believed

My chains are gone I’ve been set free
My God, my Savior has ransomed me
And like a flood His mercy reigns
Unending love, amazing grace’

My encouragement to you:

My encouragement to you:

The end of Easter doesn’t mean we forget about Jesus and the Cross. Listen to these songs, pray and read the Bible verses that remind you of the death of Jesus and mediate upon them daily throughout the coming weeks.

Let’s Pray:

Lord Jesus I worship you today. You are my Saviour, Redeemer, hope, light and strength. Thank you that you came and died for me on the Cross and rose again. As I remember the true meaning of Easter, I worship Your Name. Thank you that through your death and resurrection I have a Redeemer who lives. Thank you that I’ve received amazing grace, perfect love freedom from fear. Thank you that You are always with me.

In Jesus name I pray. Amen.

Love those songs! Our choir has sung Amazing Grace, and In Christ Alone. I love to worship before we have the sermon on Sunday, because I think it puts people in the right attitude to worship through the message. God bless you!

I love all of these songs so much! I would definitely say they are at the top of my favorite worship songs. Another favorite of mine is Glorious Day by Casting Crowns. The lyrics “Living, He loved me
    Dying, He saved me
Buried, He carried my sins far away
    Rising, He justified freely forever
    One day He’s coming
Oh glorious day, oh glorious day” Remind me of how much He loves us and how He died so we could be free!
